In order to meet the clients needs, goals, and expectations, you should develop the following:
(1) teaching skills
(2) interpersonal skills
(3) administrative skills
(4) learning skills
Most students will expect you to be prepared, and you should be prepared. In addition, you must be perceived as being prepared by the students. You can achieve this by preparing the cassette tape in advance, making photocopies of supplementary materials in advance, and using the board effectively.
On the board, you should write the class agenda; for example:
Tonight:
1. Warm UpMothers Day
2. Talking about activities
a. Personal
b. In the office
3. Telephone calls (review): practice
a. Receiving calls
b. Making calls
As an administrator, your materials should be organized and you class should be managed effectively.
Good interpersonal skills will give you the ability to listen to the students, percieve their needs, and be on good terms with everyone in class, thereby establishing an atmosphere conducive to learning.
By expressing interest in the students lives and culture and actively "learning" from them and about them, they will be more prone to learn from and listen to you.
Take care of the students in your class, and they will take care of you.
